Its teeth were first found in 1874 near Golden, Colorado by Arthur Lakes, with varying skeletal remains being found over the years until partial skeletons were found in 1900 and 1902 in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana, by Barnum Brown. In 1905, Henry Fairfield Osborn named itTyrannosaurus Rex, which is derived from the Greek words tyrannos, sauros and rex, which when translated becomes "King Tyrant Lizard". It wasn't until 1990 that the most complete skeleton was discovered in a section of the Hell Creek Formation that extended up into South Dakota, and even then it was only considered to be approximately 85% of the actual bone structure. It is particularly well known for its short forelimbs, large head and long tail, combined with it's forward-leaning posture.
Assembled, the skeleton measures approximately 19cm tall.
