Sensorial Education

What is Sensorial Education?

Acquisition of unconscious knowledge by 'Maria Montessori" -

"A misunderstanding that arises with regard to Sensorial education is that people think the aim is to sharpen the senses physically by means of repeated exercise, but that is not the idea at all. When we'educate' the senses we are not trying to make the child see better; we are helping him to know and understand what he sees. By acquainting him first with strongly-contrasted sensations and at the same time he is learning to compare, to contrast and to discriminate, that is to distinguish different sense impressions, and to put them in some sort of order. This is the beginning of a conscious knowledge of the environment as opposed to the unconscious knowledge he has already assimilated".
