Montessori Activities - Practical Life Skills & Fine Motor

14th May 2018 - S is now 14.5 months old

We are trying out the Practical Life Skills materials - Nuts and Bolts Block.

He is not able to do all at one go so we just remove 1 bolt at a time and he tries to fit into the nut . he still has difficulty to turn the red knob around.

12th July 2018 - S is now 16 months old

He is always following the helper around while she sweeps and mops the floor so we decided to get some cleaning toys for him to practice his fine motor skills as well.

There are real looking miniature ones as well but Right To Learn does not have stock at the moment so we decided to start immediately so as not to miss his sensitive period (developmental milestone)

“The child has a creative aptitude, a potential energy that will enable it to build up a mental world from the world about it. He makes numerous acquisitions during the sensitive periods, which put him in relation to the other world in an exceptionally intense manner.” The Secret of Childhood by Maria Montessori.

Next we introduce him to sweeping and putting the scraps of paper into the dustpan .. we did this a few hours ago and since then he has been moving with his broom all around the house and trying to sweep even the tiniest piece of paper lying around.
